Firefighters save lives, help the injured and are always there when there is an emergency. It is often hot and this quickly leads to heat stress. That’s why firefighters are over 100 % more at risk of having a heart attack. This does not have to be the case. For the first time, everyone can easily protect themselves from the consequences of heat stress during firefighting operations. We have developed the climate-neutral E.COOLINE cooling clothing for all operations where the heat is on again. It cools simply and quickly with 660 watts.

DANGER TO LIFE IN THE FIRE BRIGADE

A recent study by the University of Edinburgh shows that firefighters have a 134% higher risk of having a heart attack. The risk of thrombosis is very high and so is the risk of a heart attack. This is not the first study with these facts.

A few years ago, the State Fire Brigade School found out with the STATT study that 60% of the tested respiratory protection personnel had a body temperature of 38-39°C, i.e. they were on duty with a “fever”. Anyone who has ever had a fever knows how it makes you feel and that you certainly can’t perform at your best. But that would be important in a dangerous situation.

In addition, the test subjects lost an average of one litre of water in only 25 minutes and their heart rate was above the maximum level recommended by doctors almost the entire time. Therefore, cooling during firefighting is vital and life-saving – not only for the firefighters but also for the people to be rescued.

Firefighters are committed to the lives of others and have to endure the heat with their health – without cooling! That is why we have developed E.COOLINE functional cooling clothing. So that our “lifesavers” can enjoy the summer in spite of the heat – with the “air conditioner to wear”.
Circulatory problems decrease, the heart rate is lower, one has to sweat less, the well-being increases and a better concentration and performance increases safety and health in action. The energy saved due to less sweat production also goes into a more relaxed end of the day.

HIGH-TECH HEAT PROTECTION IN A PROTECTIVE SUIT

Some employees also work in chemical protection suits. The “sweating water” is often even in the boots. The visor fogs up and safety suffers during the often dangerous work. Of course, the cooling in the chemical protection suit has limits at some point – after all, this is a closed system. But the working time in these suits is also limited and can thus be extended. In contrast, the suit without cooling is usually discarded much earlier, a second suit has to be used or the durability of the suit suffers from the many decontaminations. If the work can be done with cooling, it helps health but also saves costs and you have less hazardous waste to dispose of. This also helps the environment!

PROFESSIONALS SWEAR BY THE RIGHT REGENERATION

Many fire brigades suffer from a lack of personnel. There is a desperate need for new recruits, which often leads to problems with personnel capacity. This means that the existing staff has to work more than once.

Although the deployment time for firefighters is limited and time for regeneration is also necessary, there is no room for this in practice. After all, it is not the end of the day but at least an 8-hour day and sometimes shift work.

Before this can affect the health of the emergency personnel or the quality of the subsequent activity, there is a solution from top-class sport. “I’m going to spend three days in the ice bucket” was the saying during the last World Cup for regeneration after the heat of a football match.

Although it is difficult to use an ice bucket for firefighting operations, regeneration with cooling can be easily carried out with E.COOLINE after the operation. The results of a study by the University of Münster were clear:

TESTED FOR SAFETY

Especially for the fire brigade, the safety of the employees is the top priority, because the mission stands and falls with it. That’s why the clothing has to be perfect. That’s why we naturally tested the E.COOLINE waistcoat under these extreme conditions. That’s why we subjected it to the endurance test at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research EMPA in St. Gallen. A test manikin similar to Dupont’s “Thermoman”, which is equipped with sensors, was subjected to 150 KW, 230 KW and a “flashover”. The temperature on the “skin” of the test object was examined. The result was clear. The temperature increase despite the enormous heat development in figure B with E.COOLINE waistcoat was significantly lower than without (figure A). There were also no steam burns.

Always check that these tests have been carried out before using cooling waistcoats near ovens or fires. This contributes to your health and safety.
