COMPETITIONS IN HOT-WEATHER DON’T HAVE TO BE – WHY WATER STOPS ARE SO IMPORTANT IN SPORTS

Whether football, handball or baseball - professional cooling with E.COOLINE cooling clothing has been scientifically proven to improve concentration and performance.

Every team playing football, handball, basketball or other ball sports in the heat works up a sweat. That’s okay in principle , but what most people don’t know is that heavy sweating also means a high loss of energy. This results in exhaustion and a drop in performance over the course of the game. Especially in summer or in hot countries, but also in non-air-conditioned halls. The first world championships have already taken place with drinking stops, the players had heat cramps and in some cases the teams were only reactive on the pitch in the last minutes or in overtime at the latest. This was at least the case if they did not have a heat alleviation strategy. The first teams such as the Swiss NATI, the Irish national soccer team, some Bundesliga teams and basketball play-off participants such as BBU ratiopharm Ulm realized this already and use E.COOLINE cooling clothing. For precooling – i.e. during the warm-up – but also during the breaks (intercooling) and for regeneration/recovery purposes.

„I'm going to lie down in the ice bucket for 3 days".

Energy -sapping games do affect the core and for this reason even small things make a big difference. With the power density in professional soccer, as in many other sports, differences in performance of 1% are already a question of victory or defeat. Therefore, before the World Cup, various tests were carried out in close cooperation with the medical department of a European national soccer team. Despite the warm-up program, the temperature of the players was 6°C lower than that of the support staff standing only on the sidelines.

But not only that. The assessment of the players was also positive.

NEW POWER IN THE NEXT GAME THROUGH PROFESSIONAL REGENERATION

More and more games and tournaments are taking place in ever shorter succession and demand a lot from the players’ bodies. At the end of the day, the team whose players remain injury-free the longest and best until the end of the season is at the top of the table. But how can this be achieved? In a large-scale study led by the University of Saarbrücken, several regeneration measures were tested for their effectiveness. The result: cooling is one of the few measures that leads to effective results in regeneration.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF REGENERATION?

Recovery time is shortened and micro-injuries can be contained before more serious injuries occur. As a result, the player is back in shape faster and is more likely to stay injury-free. The whole team is therefore more likely to succeed.
Ice barrels have been the method of choice so far, but they are not particularly environmentally friendly because you need a lot of cold energy to make the ice and hundreds of gallons of water. Instead, you can cool your legs with E.COOLINE chaps and PowerBoots or use the BigPad. If you already used a cooling vest for precooling (warming up with cooling) anyway, you simply put it on again for regeneration. With it, you can even go straight to the interview after the game – regeneration included!

SUSTAINABILITY IS ALSO A TEAM SPORT

“I’m going to lie down in the ice bucket for three days” was, as mentioned above, one of the reactions after the sweaty game at the World Cup. However, not everyone has an ice bucket and many people – including many sports physicians – find the ice bucket too cold and others too unhygienic, especially when several people use the same ice bucket. In addition, in many places it is a logistical challenge to procure the enormous quantities of ice and water. At the latest when the barrels are dismantled, many do not know where to put the enormous quantities of water. The amount of energy and water – which is needed every time – is also not particularly sustainable or environmentally friendly. Regeneration with E.COOLINE is climate-neutral, simple and hygienic. An entire soccer team only needs a maximum of 20-30 liters of water. This does not even come close to filling a single ice barrel. Not to mention the necessary cooling energy for the ice. E.COOLINE, by contrast, saves hundreds of liters of water, energy and is climate-neutral.
